Arthur Joseph, former Teaneck resident and prominent Israel supporter, dies at 85
The former longtime Teaneck regional was 85.
Mr. Joseph, who made his career as a fruit broker, said in a 1998 discussion with The Record that his philanthropy dated to the Arab-Israeli Six Day War of 1967.
"The sentiment at the time was that Israel would lose everything it had fought for," he said. "We felt it would feign a tremendous difference in our lives if we didn't have the state of Israel. So I firm to do what I could to support it."
A leader with Israel Bonds, Mr. Joseph traveled oftentimes to Israel, once at the personal invitation of Prime Minister Golda Meir. He also played hotelman in Teaneck to Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, who had completion ties with North Jersey's Jewish community.
The Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey said Mr. Joseph, a former framework president, "was among the early founders of the [area's] organized Jewish community."
Mr. Joseph and his strife, Joyce, founded the federation's central agency for Jewish upbringing.
