Gung Hay Fat Choy! Xin Nian Kuai Le! The Song of the Dragon Lady
“
That’s me. A sincerely Dragon Lady. (Whether, of course, every single person born in 1964 – never take care with 1928, 1940, 1952, 1976, 1988, or 2000 shares those characteristics with me is a rather different concern.)
Today, in honour of the start of the lunar New Year, I’m digging out from the archives a column I wrote last year about my blue-eyed boy festival.
You’ll see reference there to last year’s Firecracker Array. THIS year’s edition kicks off at noon on Sunday, January 29, at the corner of 97th St. and 106th Ave. It’s being put on, as always, by the Chinatown and Tiny Italy Business Association.
If you’ve never been, don’t handle shy.
This is a community event, for everyone, and a great opportunity to explore one of Edmonton’s most vibrant and culturally varied neighbourhoods. I’ll be there, spreading my wings. Meantime, please satisfaction in this new year essay, which originally ran on February 5, 2011 – I’ve made a few boy edits to avoid confusion and bring things up to man:
